Für die eigentliche Reparatur gibt es Grundierung und Spray, damit das neue Blech vor dem Anschrauben rostgeschützt und lackiert werden kann. Ein üblicher Kontrollpunkt ist, dass die Spritzschutz-Stange nicht durchkorrodiert ist – eine kaputte Stange lässt den Schutz flattern und reißt Löcher in die Innenseite des Kotflügels.
